TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Aston Villa sporting director Monchi is who persuaded the club to sign Marcus Rashford on loan before deadline day.

Rashford is “excited” to join Aston Villa on loan as he feels a move to Birmingham could give him the chance to revive his career.

Unai Emery green-lighted Rashford’s move to Aston Villa and the Manchester United megastar now has the chance to play for a side competing for top four and in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford did not get a chance to say goodbye to the United supporters but it is important to keep in mind that his move to Villa is a loan deal where there is an option to buy — and only time will tell whether a second innings at Old Trafford is in store for one of their most high-profile academy graduates.

In the meantime, the 27-year-old will be determined to remind the world why he remains a top-class forward.

Monchi convinced Aston Villa to sign Marcus Rashford on loan

Sources have told Graeme BaileyTBR Football’s chief correspondent that Monchi spoke with Unai Emery and convinced him to get on board with the prospect of signing Rashford on loan.

The former Sevilla sporting director firmly believes that Emery is the right man to revitalise Rashford, who has been labelled “unbelievable”.

Aston Villa enquired about signing Rashford recently as the owners agreed to sanction the club-record personal terms after holding talks with Monchi. Rashford was linked with a move to West Ham but he is now set to don a different shade of claret and blue in the coming months.

The V Sports ownership trust the Spaniard completely, who has earmarked Marco Asensio’s imminent loan move to Aston Villa and Joao Felix’s potential switch to Villa Park as deals worth doing.

Aston Villa will cover a majority of Rashford’s wages as he now has the chance to make his debut for them against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Why Marcus Rashford to Barcelona did not happen

TBR Football were informed that Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona collapsed for a number of reasons.

Firstly, the Wythenshawe-born winger had no intention to take a wage cut.

Secondly, Barcelona had assured Rashford’s camp that they had to sell either Ansu Fati or Andreas Christensen to fund his arrival.

Unlike at Aston Villa, where the FA Cup winner is likely to play regularly, Rashford was not guaranteed to start at Barcelona due to how brilliant their front three of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski has been this season.

Whether Rashford can truly return to his brilliant best in an Aston Villa shirt will be interesting to see as a recurring theme throughout his career has been redemption.
