Report: Tottenham man who hasn’t played a minute this season now finally training without pain

A number of Tottenham Hotspur players have struggled with injuries this season, but none more so than Harry Winks.

After heading out on loan to Serie A side Sampdoria, Winks has yet to play a minute of competitive football.

However, a report from Sampdoria website Club Doria 46 has provided a positive update on the 26-year-old’s fitness.

They suggest that Winks has trained for the first time ‘without feeling pain’.

Sampdoria manager Dejan Stankovic hopes to have Winks available soon with the second-half of the season set to begin shortly.

It’s been an incredibly frustrating year for Winks, who hasn’t started a league game since February.

With the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma, Winks slipped down the pecking order.

The promotion to the first-team of Oliver Skipp was another bad sign for Winks.

Antonio Conte made it clear in the summer that Winks wasn’t going to be part of his plans.

CalcioMercato report that he was offered to his former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho at Roma.

There was even a suggestion that Winks could stay in the Premier League at one point.

Nottingham Forest, who attempted to sign an entire new squad in the summer, were also interested.

However, Winks’ fitness issues have been his biggest problem this season.

Winks finally pain-free in Sampdoria training

The England international was struggling with an ankle injury in the summer that has scuppered his start to life in Serie A.

Sampdoria considered terminating his loan in January, but appear to have decided against that.

Winks underwent ankle surgery last month, and is now on the road to recovery.

Football Italia believed that this would keep him out of action for another few months.

It now looks like Winks has recovered much faster than that, and will be enjoying being back in training pain-free.

The midfielder needs a fresh start after struggling for minutes at Tottenham towards the end of last season.

Sampdoria are struggling in Serie A right now, and have just six points from 15 games.

Stankovic will be desperate to throw Winks into the side as soon as he’s fit enough to play.

If he could help save his new side from relegation from this position, he’d become a fan favourite very quickly.
