Sampdoria could look to terminate Harry Winks‘ loan deal during the January transfer window, with the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder yet to make his debut for the Serie A side, according to a report from Ita Sport Press.

Winks left Spurs right at the end of the summer. The 26-year-old had failed to move his way up the pecking order under Antonio Conte. And the arrival of Yves Bissouma only added to the competition for a place in the side.

Sampdoria were clearly optimistic about how a loan move could play out. It was announced that Il Doria had agreed an option to sign him permanently next summer.

However, Winks is not far off two months into his loan spell. And he is still awaiting the chance to make his debut.

Ita Sport Press notes that Winks completed just one training session before sustaining an ankle injury. And they will continue to be without him for the time-being.

Winks is reportedly hoping that the issue will be resolved without surgery. But perhaps there is a chance that he may leave Italy without having made an appearance out on loan.

Ita Sport Press reports that Sampdoria could send Winks back to Tottenham in January if the situation does not change.

Sampdoria only have seven more games before the World Cup. And Winks has less than a month if he hopes to make his debut before the January window opens.

It is a real shame that Winks’ spell has not gone to plan thus far. Of course, there was a time when he looked destined for a brilliant career with Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino felt that he was an ‘amazing‘ player.

He has the talent to be a superb midfielder at the highest level. And Tottenham may have been optimistic that he would do enough out on loan to earn a permanent move.

Unfortunately, it appears that there is now a chance that they may need to find another move for Winks in January.
