Report: Everton perplexed that ‘quality’ player hasn’t signed yet, running out of time for Villa match

Everton are growing increasingly concerned about Idrissa Gueye’s proposed transfer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The report suggests that Everton have made a ‘very attractive’ offer to the 32-year-old, and aren’t sure what is holding up the deal.

The transfer would need to be confirmed soon in order for Everton to register Gueye in time to play against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Gueye has been training away from the rest of Paris Saint-Germain’s squad, alongside West Ham target Thilo Kehrer, and Lampard has reportedly called Gueye to convince him to re-join the Toffees.

It’s a worrying development for Everton fans, who would have been hoping to see the ‘quality’ player at Goodison Park once again.

Everton are growing concerned about Gueye transfer

Central midfield has been area Lampard has been keen to improve this summer.

He was forced to try many different combinations of two-man and three-man midfields last season, but didn’t have much success.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Alex Iwobi were the men chosen in Everton’s 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, although Doucoure gave away the penalty that eventually decided the contest.

The belief at Everton is that Gueye would link up perfectly with new signing Amadou Onana, the Belgian international arriving from Lille this week.

If a deal for Gueye can’t be completed, Everton could turn their attention to Red Bull Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara, who has made it clear he wants to come to the Premier League.

Lampard is clearly desperate to improve his options, and will be growing increasingly frustrated that the deal to sign Gueye isn’t over the line yet.

Aston Villa set up with a three-man midfield against Bournemouth on Saturday, and whoever if Lampard sticks with just two players in the centre of the park, they’re going to be need to be very disciplined to deal with the extra man.

That sort of discipline is exemplified by Gueye, and you can understand why he wants the Senegalese international through the door as quickly as possible.
