Lucas Moura shares what Tottenham boss Conte told him during pre-season meeting
Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has revealed that Antonio Conte told him he’s an important part of the club’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
The Brazilian joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain for £23 million in January 2018 (BBC). A lot was expected of him, but after just 38 goals in over 200 games for the club, it has to be said that he hasn’t quite lived up to all the hype.
However, Lucas has still been a great servant for Tottenham. He works his socks off every game, can play in numerous positions, and is a very useful player to have in the squad.
There have been a lot of rumours about Lucas’ future recently, with reports claiming he could return to Brazil. However, the 29-year-old has made it clear that he will stay at Spurs. Even Conte apparently wants him to remain a part of the club for the upcoming season.

Lucas faced the media ahead of Tottenham’s pre-season game against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma this weekend, and the Brazilian was asked about his future.
The 29-year-old shared what Conte told him in a private meeting to make it clear that he isn’t going to leave Tottenham in this summer’s transfer window.
Lucas said, as per HaytersTV: “He (Conte) was very clear in every conversation we had. He said I am important for him and it’s good to know.
“I always spoke to him about what he wants from me and what he expects from me. I am ready to give my best for the team and for him, it doesn’t matter what position it is on the pitch. I am a team player.”

If Tottenham received a big offer for Lucas, selling him would’ve been a fairly easy decision, but pushing him out of the door makes no sense whatsoever.
The Brazilian can play on either flank and also in attacking midfield. Conte has even used him as a wing-back recently, which means he still has a lot to offer.
Lucas’ current contract at Tottenham expires in 2024, and he has been very vocal about returning to Brazil to play for his beloved Sao Paulo again before hanging up his boots.
That move is very likely next year, but for now, he’s staying in North London.
