‘He is strong’: Tottenham’s £25m man says he’s spotted another Cristian Romero in Conte’s squad during pre-season

Tottenham Hotspur winger Lucas Moura has been praising his new teammate Richarlison’s attitude in pre-season training and even compared him to Cristian Romero.

Richarlison signed for Spurs from Everton this summer for a fee worth up to £60 million (BBC). And it seems the Brazilian is already making an impression on his teammates, particularly his compatriot.

Moura told Football.London that he feels Richarlison will be a great signing for the club and heaped praise on his attitude, suggesting Spurs may have added another player just like their Argentine centre-back.

He said of his new team mate: “He is strong. His mentality is very good. He’s a great addition for us. He’s a very simple guy, very humble, very funny. It’s always good to have a guy like this in the squad and I’m happy because he’s Brazilian so I have one more Brazilian with me now!”

Richarlison joins an elite attacking force at Spurs and will fight for a place in the team with the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.

Antonio Conte’s attacking trio impressed last season, so the former Everton man will have his work cut out to try and force his way into the side. But if Moura is right about his mentality, he’ll be more than up to the fight.

Lucas joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain back in January 2018 for a fee of £25 million (BBC) and will also be competing with his compatriot for a place in Antonio Conte’s team.

The 29-year-old told Football.London that Richarlison brings ‘a lot of energy’ and is always ready to play. He even compared his attitude to that of Cristian Romero.

He said: “He’s a kind of player that gives everything on the pitch. He’s a striker who wants to score goals and win the game.

“There are players like this. When they are on the pitch they change their mood. His character is good, like [Cristian] Romero. Players like this are fighters,”

Richarlison and Romero do have a bit of history as the pair have clashed in Premier League and International fixtures, with the Argentine even mocking his new teammate on social media a few months back.

But as Moura says the players have similar fighting attitudes, they were bound to clash on the pitch when facing off against each other. And it seems like water under the bridge as the pair shared a hug at Tottenham’s training ground on Richarlison’s first day.

With Richarlison and Romero on the same side now, opposition teams will have their work cut out when coming up against the pair.
