Ivan Perisic named in World Cup squad alongside 'extraordinary' player who Tottenham reportedly want to sign

Tottenham Hotspur players are starting to find out whether or not they’ll be on their way to the World Cup this month.

Richarlison has already confirmed his place in Brazil’s squad, and will wear the Selecao’s iconic number nine shirt.

Another Spurs player has discovered his fate today, with Croatia announcing their team.

Ivan Perisic will be going to his third World Cup, although England fans won’t fondly remember his last appearance.

Perisic scored the winner in extra-time to knock England out in Russia and help reach their first major international final.

It wasn’t to be against Hugo Lloris’ France, although he did also score against his club captain in the final.

The Croatia squad still contains the likes of Luka Modric and Dejan Lovren, who are considered national heroes.

However, the next generation of young talent is starting to come through, and will be well worth a watch.

One player Perisic is almost certainly to play with in Qatar in defender Josko Gvardiol.

Gvardiol has had a sensational start to the season at RB Leipzig, and will likely be Croatia’s starting centre-back.

The defender has been linked with Spurs in the past, and Tottenham fans could get a closer look at him this month.

Perisic could play with Gvardiol in Qatar

The ‘extraordinary’ defender was a surprise inclusion in Croatia’s opening match of last year’s Euros against England.

The Three Lions got their World Cup revenge that day, but Gvardiol impressed at left-back.

So much so he retained his place in the team for the entire tournament and has been a regular starter for Croatia ever since.

A report from Fabrizio Romano in the summer suggested Tottenham were big fans of Gvardiol.

The move never materialised, with Spurs priced out of the transfer by Leipzig’s asking price.

A strong World Cup for the 20-year-old is only going to add an extra zero to the German club’s demands.

Tottenham will be hoping Perisic can help convince Gvardiol to head to north London when playing alongside him.

They may have to fight off interest from Chelsea and Manchester City to add the Croatian to their squad.
