Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move to sign Josko Gvardiol, but it looks like Arsenal want him now as well.
Antonio Conte’s side won the bragging rights for North London last season by pipping Arsenal to the final Champions League spot. Spurs fans absolutely loved that, but the battle between the two clubs is not just limited to the football pitch, they’re fighting in the transfer window as well.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal have been rumoured to be interested in the same players this summer. Raphinha was a target for both sides, but Barcelona won that battle. Arsenal beat Spurs in the race to sign Gabriel Jesus this summer, while Conte managed to get one over the Gunners by signing Richarlison.
Now, Arteta could get his revenge on Spurs for snatching Richarlison away from them after Edu reportedly held talks with the Brazil international’s camp over a potential move.
Arsenal could get their Richarlison revenge on Tottenham by signing Gvardiol
RB Leipzig star Gvardiol has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while now. Reports had revealed that Spurs were even ready to smash their transfer record to sign the Croatian, who was once branded as ‘amazing’ by now-Leeds boss Jesse Marsch.
Spurs’ interest in Gvardiol seems to have cooled in recent weeks, which has opened the door for Arsenal to step in.
A report revealed this week that Mikel Arteta is battling his mentor Pep Guardiola to sign the versatile 20-year-old defender this summer.
It’s a very difficult deal for any club to complete, but if Arsenal manage to sign Gvardiol in this window after months of speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham, Arteta will have got his revenge on Conte for luring Richarlison away from the Emirates.

Gvardiol would be brilliant for the Gunners
One of Arsenal’s priorities in this summer’s transfer window is a new left-sided defender.
With Pablo Mari set to leave, Gabriel Magalhaes is the Gunners’ only left-footed centre-half at the moment. Next to him, Kieran Tierney needs a quality backup – someone much better than young Nuno Tavares.
Arteta really pushed to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax as the Argentine can play in both positions. He is now on his way to Manchester United, which has forced the Gunners to look elsewhere.
If the report is to be believed, Gvardiol is this man, and the Croatian, like Martinez, can play as a centre-back as well as at left-back when needed. He really would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.
