Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was impressed with Alex Iwobi’s performance against Manchester United last night.

Iwobi scored the opening goal at Goodison Park last night with a fabulous strike from outside the box.

It was the latest brilliant piece of work from the Nigerian who is enjoying a fantastic spell of form at Everton.

Everton’s unbeaten streak came to an end thanks to goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Iwobi didn’t cover himself in glory for the second goal, giving the ball away allowing the visitors to counter attack.

However, his shift into central midfield has certainly benefitted the Toffees, who will be looking to bounce back against Tottenham on Saturday.

Begovic replied to Iwobi’s post, saying: “What a player.”

The Bosnian goalkeeper has seen some action this season after Jordan Pickford picked up an injury.

He’s kept two clean sheets in two games, but won’t be too upset playing deputy to an in-form Pickford.

Iwobi has been sensational this season, and believes that Frank Lampard might have even been surprised with his performances in training.

The Athletic have reported that Everton are looking to open contract talks with the 26-year-old.

Iwobi’s current deal runs until 2024, and so a new contract might not be a priority but will need to be considered this season.

Iwobi’s performances haven’t just impressed Begovic, with the media giving him a nine out of 10 this season.

Everton have a number of defensive midfield options, but no one as creative as Iwobi in the middle.

His range of passing and ability to carry the ball make him a difficult player to deal with.

The protection offered by Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye allows him to take more risks.

Although the second goal came from his sloppiness, it has certainly benefitted Everton going forward.
