'Right at the top of his game': Media wowed by Everton 26-year-old's '9/10' season so far

Everton have enjoyed a fairly decent start to the Premier League season.

Though the Toffees only won their first top-flight game of the campaign last weekend, the mood around Goodison Park has been great throughout.

Everton boss Frank Lampard has got his side kicking on after surviving in the Premier League last season, and there has certainly been progress.

After the international break, Everton – currently 13th in the table – have a decent springboard from which to kick on further.

And there has been a particularly great on-pitch development over these past few weeks.

Namely, the form of Alex Iwobi.

The 26-year-old has struggled for much of his time at Goodison Park.

But this season, Iwobi has improved massively and is now one of the first names on Lampard’s teamsheet.

And the Liverpool Echo gave him the highest rating out of all the Everton players for their efforts so far this season, awarding him 9 out of 10.

They wrote: “What do you even say about Alex Iwobi that hasn’t already been mentioned?”

“His transformation into a fan favourite at Goodison Park has been stunning to witness and all of his performances this term have been right at the top of his game.

“Moulding into a central midfield role, playing in either a two or three in the centre of the park, the Nigeria international has set the example for those around him.

“Industrious, intelligent, energetic, hard-working and creative – what more could Blues be asking of him right now?”

“Setting examples”

In a separate article, the Echo wrote: “Has an Everton player ever changed the wider perception about themselves quite as much as Alex Iwobi?

“From someone much-maligned by large sections of the fanbase, from a player who didn’t seem to truly fit into any of the systems a selection of managers brought to Goodison Park – he’s now the first name on the teamsheet.

“He’s the most influential man in Frank Lampard’s side, someone setting examples for the rest of the squad around him.”
