Tottenham move for ‘incredible’ forward now played down despite talks

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for new signings in January but it looks like a move for Portuguese forward Jota might not be on the cards now.

Jota has struggled in Saudi Arabia since moving from Celtic. With that, he’s been linked with a move back to UK shores and Ange Postecoglou being at Tottenham has thrown up obvious links.

Indeed, Spurs are thought to have spoken to Jota about the move to North London, while it’s also been reported that there was a confidence at the club they’d get the deal done.

However, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham fans shouldn’t be getting their hopes up just yet.

Tottenham won’t be signing Jota as it stands

Taking to his social media account over on X, respected transfer expert Galetti appeared to cast Tottenham’s move for Jota into doubt.

Galetti has gone against more recent reports and instead suggested he’s not a player of interest for Spurs, and he’s likely to stay in Saudi Arabia for now.

Tottenham are being linked with a host of new signings as the January window opens today.

A deal to bring Radu Dragusin in is thought to be close. Conor Gallagher is also wanted at Spurs, although there’s been mixed reports when it comes to an actual bid.

Jota might be Tottenham’s last resort

The links to the ‘incredible‘ Jota were always going to be there as soon as Ange took over. He starred for him at Celtic and links to ex players always happen.

However, Galetti’s comments here are interesting. It seems, based on this, that Jota might end up being a last resort type signing for Spurs.

Of course, clubs have a number of plates spinning in January and Jota will be someone who Spurs have on a list somewhere.

But there’s also other areas to consider as a priority. That means any move for Jota is likely to come late on when all other avenues have been exhausted.

Still, it’s one to watch and don’t be surprised if the narrative changes again in a week or two.
