Tottenham are reportedly in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The Chelsea skipper is a man in-demand this January and Tottenham have been among the clubs chasing him for some time now.

Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio tweeted this morning that talks were now underway between Tottenham and Chelsea to bring Gallagher to North London.

And expanding on things a bit further, Di Marzio has now added further context on his website, including the fee that’s expected to be agreed.

It’s reported that Tottenham will look to pay around £40m to sign Gallagher. That sort of money falls short of the reported £50m Chelsea were said to be looking to get for the midfielder.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been keen to bring in new players next month. A new defender is high on his agenda as well.

However, a deal for Gallagher has always appealed to the Spurs boss and it looks like he might be getting his way.

Tottenham to get Conor Gallagher bargain

Chelsea fans won’t be too happy about this reported price. £40m is not that great in the grand scheme of things and they’re going to be losing a key player and one who the crowd like.

Any club selling their captain is always going to cause a split in the fan-base. Chelsea fans will be bemused that all the spending they’ve done on average players is now leading them to have to sell a home-grown talent.

For Tottenham, of course, this could be massive.

The club are looking to move Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on and the idea of replacing the Dane with Gallagher makes a lot of sense.

If Tottenham get this one over the line, and then go and add a defender like Jean-Clair Todibo or Radu Dragusin, then the window will be a success regardless.

Anyone else on top of those two signings would simply be a bonus.
