Football journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United are ready to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to either Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea this summer.

The Frenchman is arguably the most exciting player in the Premier League. His skills, tricks and fancy footwork are a joy to watch, and he has been a fan-favourite at Newcastle since he joined them in 2019.

Saint-Maximin still has three years left on his contract at St James’ Park. Nobody really expected the Magpies to let him leave this summer, but if Jones is to be believed, they want him gone.

The journalist has boldly claimed that Newcastle would happily sell the 25-year-old to Chelsea or Tottenham in the coming weeks.

Newcastle are really hoping to reach the next level this season, and from the outside, it definitely did look like Saint-Maximin would be an integral part of Eddie Howe’s plans.

However, Jones has now claimed that the Toon are actively looking for buyers to get rid of him.

He told GiveMeSport: “Saint-Maximin, Newcastle would drive him there (to Chelsea), to be honest.

“I mean, they are looking for a buyer for Saint-Maximin, and if it was Chelsea, their eyes would light up and they would be very keen to get every penny they possibly could out of him.

“I know Tottenham have been linked to Saint-Maximin, too. Newcastle don’t see him as part of their future project.”

Reports revealed just a few days ago that Newcastle are bracing themselves for bids from Chelsea and Tottenham for Saint-Maximin in the coming weeks.

It was claimed that the Toon think they can get a fee as high as £40 million for the French winger, who was once branded as ‘breathtaking’ by Gary Neville.

Saint-Maximin is a fantastic player, but his end product has constantly been questioned since he joined Newcastle. In 93 appearances for the Magpies, he has scored just 12 goals, which is simply not good enough at the top level.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea and Tottenham will really splash the cash for Saint-Maximin after the two clubs have already signed Raheem Sterling and Richarlison respectively.
