Super-agent says Tottenham held talks with Man United star's agents, but Paratici thinks deal's impossible now

Italian super-agent Roberto De Fanti has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and representatives of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford have been in discussions recently.

The Englishman, much like most of his teammates, had a torrid campaign at Old Trafford last season. He started just six league games in 2022 and completed the full 90 minutes in the Premier League on just one occasion since the turn of the year.

Lack of regular game time really frustrated Rashford, so much so that Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 24-year-old is considering his future, and an exit could well be on the cards.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked over the last two months, but De Fanti has just revealed that it was Spurs who met with Rashford’s agents to discuss a transfer.

Tottenham and Marcus Rashford’s agents held transfer discussions

In his column on CaughtOffside, the Italian agent wrote: “All the top sides in Spain and Italy have been keen to enquire about Marcus Rashford’s availability and the possibility of him leaving United this summer.

“Prior to any discussions, a valuation of around £40m, maybe £50m, seemed fair, but it turns out the attacker would cost a lot more – between £70m and £80m. United are confident a club is unlikely to pay that, especially off the back of a poor season, so they’re almost certain he will stay.

“It seems there have been some discussions very recently between the player’s camp and Tottenham Hotspur.

“The London club feel negotiating a deal for Rashford is virtually impossible though – so that transfer no longer seems an option.”

TBR View:

Rashford looked nothing like his previous self last season. A return of five goals and two assists in 32 appearances is just not good enough, but that doesn’t make him a bad player.

The 24-year-old, on his day, is capable of winning a game on his own. He can play anywhere across the front three, is rapid, and can score and create chances. He can be a real handful, and the fact that he’s still only 24 means he’ll only get better in the coming years.

If Rashford does leave Manchester United this summer, he will not be short of offers. It’s no real surprise that Tottenham considered signing him, but with Son Heing-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski available at Antonio Conte’s disposal, it’s difficult to see where the Englishman will fit in.

It will be interesting to see where Rashford will end up if he leaves Old Trafford this summer, but if De Fanti is to be believed, Fabio Paratici and Tottenham have accepted that signing him is virtually impossible now.
