Report: Manchester United could offer 'special' player in swap deal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham

Marcus Rashford could be offered to Tottenham by Manchester United as part of their bid to sign Harry Kane, as per the Independent.

United seem keen to land Kane but his asking price could prove prohibitive without throwing some players in there to get the cash outlay down.

Manchester City tried a similar approach last summer, but ultimately, of course Kane did not end up leaving north London despite a protracted saga.

And that has seemingly raised the prospect that Kane and his England teammate Rashford could swap clubs this summer, although it remains a distant prospect for now.

Their update reads: “A number of options are still being considered (by Arsenal) from Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo.

Marcus Rashford isn’t seen as likely right now, due to the fact everyone wants to see how things go at Manchester United with the appointment of Erik Ten Hag.

More interestingly, if no more likely, the England star has been mooted as a possible makeweight in a United move for Harry Kane.

Kane’s future is another of those dependent on what happens with Conte.”

Could a swap between Kane and Rashford happen?

These swap deals are often talked about but it is hard to get them over the line due to the amount of moving parts involved.

Daniel Levy is notoriously hard to negotiate with and it is hard to see him budging on his demand for a British record transfer fee for Kane.

Obviously, getting in a replacement as part of the deal could appeal, but is Rashford really a centre-forward, capable of leading the line?

He has tended to look more dangerous from the left but Son Heung-min is a level above out there and the Englishman looks lost on the right, where Dejan Kulusevski looks set to be bought anyway by Spurs.

Rashford’s talent has been described as ‘special’ by Gary Lineker, a man who knows a thing or two about forwards, but he has completely lost his way at Old Trafford and his confidence looks shot.
