‘Should be doing better’: Peter Crouch thinks £100k-a-week Tottenham man has been really out of form recently

Tottenham Hotspur will think they should be looking forward to the Champions League knockout stages today.

However, a last-minute VAR decision disallowed Harry Kane’s potential winner.

Speaking on BT Sport Champions League Tonight (26/10 11:11pm), Peter Crouch was evaluating his old club’s performance.

Crouch wanted to pinpoint one Tottenham player who he didn’t think had the best game.

That was captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who he believed has now been out of form for some time.

Lloris was beaten from distance by Marcus Edwards in the first-half to put Sporting ahead.

The shot from Edwards wasn’t the most powerful effort, but was struck right into the bottom corner.

Crouch claimed that Lloris has been making some ‘big mistakes’ and has been out of form for a while.

The French international will be hoping he can improve his performances in the coming weeks with the World Cup approaching.

It’s no coincidence that Tottenham’s form has also started to suffer over the past few games.

Antonio Conte will now be concentrating on making sure his side go into the mid-season break on a high, rather than with question marks over certain players.

Lloris has been out of form recently

Crouch was asked about Lloris’ performance not just last night but over the past few weeks.

“He’s had a difficult time recently. I think it’s harsh because (Marcus) Edwards has put that right in the corner there, and he’s probably not expecting it,” Crouch said.

“But I think a goalkeeper of his quality should be doing better, and also recently, I think he should have been doing better. He’s made some big mistakes.”

The £100,000-per-week keeper was criticised for not moving his feet quickly enough last night to stop Edwards’ shot.

He was punished at the weekend for rushing out of his box to deal with a long ball against Newcastle.

Callum Wilson outmuscled the shot stopper, before lobbing the ball into the empty net.

In contrast, he had to be at his very best to avoid their defeat against Manchester United becoming embarrassing.

Lloris’ being out of form recently may fuel further speculation that he could be replaced.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has been touted as one potential replacement for Lloris.

Young Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont is another player on Tottenham’s radar.

These are all long-term solutions to a problem that Conte needs to fix now, otherwise Lloris could cost him more points going forward.
