Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking at Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.

The France captain has been an incredible servant for Spurs over the past 10 years.

But according to the Evening Standard, Lloris is expected to leave Tottenham when his contract expires in 2024.

The 35-year-old will be a difficult player for Spurs to replace.

So it’s good to hear that they’re reportedly looking at a world-class stopper like Oblak to potentially take over.

And according to 90Min, it looks as though Atletico have also started sourcing replacements for the 29-year-old.

The online outlet claims Los Colchoneros are looking at Manchester United’s David de Gea.

The Spain international is out of contract at the end of the current season.

Although United have an option to trigger a year’s extension to his deal, no decision has yet been made on his future.

Meanwhile, Oblak has reportedly signed a new six-year deal with Atletico, though the club hasn’t yet announced it.

Despite this, 90Min claims the Slovenia captain is apparently unsettled at the club at present.

He is reportedly considering his options and ‘a departure in the next year is possible’.

90Min also claims that playing in the Premier League is a ‘huge ambition’ for Oblak.

The English top flight ‘is looking like the most likely hunting ground for the player at this point.

‘He would be unbelievable in the Premier League’

Former Tottenham ace Kieran Trippier played alongside Oblak at Atletico.

Back in February, the England international claimed that his former teammate would be perfect for the English game.

“The number of points he saved us and his shot-stopping is probably the best in the world, for sure,” he told Five Live (via HITC).

“I am really surprised [no one has signed Oblak]. He is one of the best keepers in the world. I think he would be unbelievable in the Premier League. Obviously, who could he go to, that’s the question?

“I have had conversations with him about the Premier League. He has always asked me questions. Of course, I would love to see him in the Premier League.”
