West Ham United offered Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma a lucrative long-term contract earlier this summer.

Danjuma was heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium earlier in the transfer window but it did not materalise.

The Athletic have reported that the Hammers were willing to pay him £120,000 per week on a five year deal, paying £35 million to the Champions League semi-finalists.

But then David Moyes got cold feet after hearing some of the reports on what the former Bournemouth man is like.

West Ham offered Danjuma huge contract

The report says Moyes heard Danjuma reacted negatively whenever the club suffered a loss or the player himself was not playing well.

It should be noted that Danjuma’s camp have publicly responded to question marks over his character, but whatever Moyes heard put him off.

West Ham went in another direction and will hope they have a squad together now which can push for the top six again and compete in Europe.

Liverpool have been linked with a swoop for Danjuma over the course of last season, but now they have signed Darwin Nunez, they did not feel they needed another forward.

Manchester United were also said to be keen on the ‘fantastic’ forward, but signed Antony over than the man who ripped apart Diogo Dalot at Old Trafford last season.

Other Premier League clubs, such as Tottenham and Newcastle have also been linked, but none of them got a deal over the line this summer.
