Tottenham Hotspur target Ilaix Moriba is in Germany for his medical to join Red Bull Leipzig, according to Sky Sports.

What’s the story?

The Lilywhites were linked with a move for the Spain youth international.

Reports from Mundo Deportivo claimed a deal for the midfielder was close.

However, Leipzig have come in and seemingly snatched the £12.8m player ahead of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

When given the choice of Tottenham or the Bundesliga outfit, Moriba allegedly chose the latter in a blow to Spurs.

Sport have shone more light on why Moriba ‘ruled out’ a move to N17 this summer. According to the publication, the 18-year-old turned down a move after listening to the club’s sporting and financial proposal.

Moriba would have been the perfect signing for Tottenham

Signing a midfielder has never felt more important in Spurs’ recent history.

After the departure of Moussa Sissoko last week, the Lilywhites have five central midfielders.

But, with Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks reportedly transfer-listed, that leaves three players Nuno clearly prefers.

One injury problem could well leave the Portuguese manager sweating over his options.

As a result, it makes missing out on Moriba to Leipzig even more frustrating for Tottenham.

With no viable links to another midfielder, questions need to be asked as to why.

This campaign has started off sensationally for the north Londoners, but injuries could have a say.

Tottenham do not want to be left in a position where they are struggling, making the need for another midfielder crucial today.
