Tottenham fans react as Leeds turn down chance to sign Winks on loan

Leeds were reportedly handed the chance to sign Tottenham star Harry Winks on loan, but chose not to – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Winks, 25, has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs – since Jose Mourinho completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.

Last season, he featured in just 15 of Tottenham’s 38 Premier League games. He was more of a regular in the cup competitions, but far from first choice.

In Tottenham’s first two Premier League games, Nuno Espirito Santo has combined a new-look midfield of Dele Alli, Oliver Skipp and Hojbjerg.

Now, The Athletic report that Tottenham and Fabio Paratici handed Leeds the chance to sign Winks on loan. But Leeds decided against him.

What are Tottenham fans saying about Leeds decision on Winks?

It is an interesting decision, given that Leeds need a midfielder. Huddersfield’s Lewis O’Brien has been linked, as has Conor Gallagher.

Asked by a Leeds fan earlier this week if the club would be signing a midfielder, owner Andrea Radrizzani placed his faith in Adam Forshaw.

Winks looks set to remain at Tottenham – with Moussa Sissoko closing in on a move to Watford. Tanguy Ndombele also wants a move.

But the England ace is set for another season in which he is in and out of the side. Detrimental to Winks, really, with the 2022 World Cup closing in.

Tottenham fans have discussed the decision by Leeds regarding £50k-a-week (Spotrac) Winks. One fan believes “Leeds have missed out”.

Some other Spurs supporters have suggested a swap deal, involving cash for England’s Euro 2020 finalist Kalvin Phillips. Another wants Raphinha.
