Report: Tottenham lining up moves for McGinn and Ward-Prowse

Tottenham Hotspur are lining up moves for John McGinn and James Ward-Prowse, with the Daily Mail reporting that their Premier League experience appeals to Spurs in this transfer window.

Spurs have made a promising start to what could be a game-changing summer. Ivan Perisic has arrived on a free transfer. And Fraser Forster looks set to follow suit.

But those deals will just whet the appetite for what is to come. Certainly, Tottenham fans will be hoping for some marquee additions as Antonio Conte prepares to lead his side into the Champions League.

And the Daily Mail has provided a rundown on some of the names on the radar. And they suggest that Tottenham are now lining up moves for Ward-Prowse and McGinn.

Previous reports suggested that Tottenham were monitoring Ward-Prowse. Meanwhile, Conte is apparently a big admirer of McGinn.

Reports before the turn of the year suggested that Villa would want at least £50 million for the ‘phenomenal‘ Scotland international. And you would imagine that that asking price has not dropped at all in the months since.

Meanwhile, Southampton selling Ward-Prowse would potentially be ominous for their campaign. So they will also have their eye on a massive fee.

Signing either player would be a major statement from Tottenham. Both appear to be absolutely pivotal to how their respective teams play.

McGinn’s energy makes such a difference for Steven Gerrard’s side. And no member of the Southampton squad has the same quality on the ball as Ward-Prowse.

Tottenham will have to part with big sums to sign either. But both McGinn and Ward-Prowse would surely find it difficult to reject Spurs as they prepare for a Champions League return.

Both turn 28 late on in the year. And if they are desperate to play in the competition, Tottenham’s interest may come at the perfect time.
