Report: Spurs now fancy their chances of landing the 'strongest defender in Europe' after £150m boost

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Gleison Bremer over the past few months.

In April, Gazzetta Dello Sport claimed that Spurs had set their sights on the Torino star.

Fabio Paratici reportedly thinks Bremer has many of the characteristics suitable for Antonio Conte’s brand of football.

However, Tottenham are far from the only club apparently eyeing the 25-year-old.

As well as Spurs, Chelsea are reportedly in pursuit of Bremer, as are Arsenal, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Now, a report in the Evening Standard has suggested good news for Tottenham on that front.

The £150million cash injection, as well as qualifying for the Champions League, have boosted Spurs’ ambitions.

Tottenham now feel confident they can compete with Chelsea for Bremer, added the report.

“Incredible”, “goal obsessed”

The Brazilian has been impressing this season with his leadership, technical ability and aggressive defending.

He made 33 Serie A appearances in 2021-22, helping Torino finish 10th.

And like Romero, Bremer has won the Serie A Defender of the Year award.

Fabrizio Romano previously branded Bremer ‘incredible’.

And Italian media have even called him the ‘strongest defender in Europe’.

Torino boss Ivan Juric paid tribute to the 6ft 2in star’s eagerness to score in November last year.

“He always wants to score, he’s goal-obsessed,” DAZN – via Calciomercato – quotes Juric as saying.

“Indeed, he was angry for having missed shots (against Udinese in November).”

Tottenham could do with bolstering their defensive ranks, and Bremer is a great shout.

Spurs have struck gold with recent signings from Italy.

Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur have all excelled since arriving at N17.

Bremer’s arrival would certainly lift Conte’s team up another level.
