According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the race to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino this summer.

The Brazilian has been one of the best defenders in the Serie A this season, maybe even the best.

That’s not easy at all as the Italian top-flight features other world-class defenders like Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt, Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij.

Bremer’s phenomenal performances this term have earned him rave reviews. He has been linked with multiple top clubs across Europe as a result, and Arsenal are now reportedly in the mix as well.

The report claims that Bremer is one of the most wanted defenders in world football today.

From Bayern and Dortmund in Germany, Atletico Madrid in Spain to Tottenham, Liverpool, Leicester, Everton and Newcastle in the Premier League, everybody wants to sign the Brazilian.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are said to have joined the race as well now and initial phone calls have already taken place, according to the report from the Italian outlet.

The big hurdle for all of the interested clubs is that Torino are looking for a fee in excess of £41 million to let him go, which may be a bit too much for some of the interested sides.

Do the Gunners need him?

Looking at Arsenal’s squad now, the simple answer is no, they don’t really need Bremer.

Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes have formed a fantastic partnership at the back and there’s no reason to change that. Rob Holding has done well when he has played this season, while William Saliba, one of the best young defenders in the world, will also be available next season.

That eliminates the need for Bremer, but Gabriel has been linked with a move away to Barcelona in recent days. If that materialises, Arteta will need a new centre-half and the Brazilian from Turin may well be the man.

Described as the ‘strongest defender in Europe’ by TuttoSport journalist Camillo Forte, Bremer will almost definitely be on the move this summer and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
