Report shares Weston McKennie update amid Tottenham, Chelsea and Aston Villa links
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Weston McKennie for a long time now.
Speculation linking Spurs and the United States ace resurfaced ahead of the January transfer window.
Aston Villa have since joined the race to sign McKennie.
However, if recent reports are true, it looks as though the player is holding out for a move elsewhere.
And Tottenham are among the clubs he reportedly wants to join.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via football.london, claim McKennie has turned down a move to Villa.
The 2022 World Cup ace is apparently holding out for a switch to Spurs or Chelsea.
‘Extraordinary’ talent
This is good news for Tottenham.
Although they don’t seem to be prioritising a move for McKennie, the report suggests they’re very much in with a chance.
However, Spurs must also be careful of Chelsea, who mean business this month – as Arsenal found out a few days ago.
It’s a very important transfer window for Spurs, whose season is unravelling a little bit more with each passing matchday.
Although Tottenham aren’t short of numbers in midfield, Antonio Conte could do with more strength in depth.
And McKennie is an ‘extraordinary‘ talent who’d be a good shout for Spurs in the middle of the park.
Alasdair Gold has previously claimed that Fabio Paratici thinks that McKennie is a ‘superstar’.
Although the 24-year-old has been getting a decent amount of game time at Juve lately, his future remains uncertain.
And with a reported price tag of around £26million, he wouldn’t break the bank for Tottenham.
Spurs’ interest has certainly been longstanding. Maybe this is the transfer window which sees him join Paratici at N17.
Tottenham have struck gold with Juve players before.
Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur have both dazzled since swapping the north of Italy for south-east England.
Could McKennie do the same for Tottenham? They certainly could do with a bit more steel.
