According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur could sign AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo on loan this summer.

Spurs have had a really impressive summer transfer window so far. Fabio Paratici has already brought in six new players – Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.

However, the North Londoners aren’t done just yet. Multiple reports have claimed that Tottenham are interested in signing a new attacking midfielder to bolster their squad even more.

James Maddison is one player who has been heavily linked, but Roma star Zaniolo could well prove to be the more affordable option.

Tottenham could sign Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma on loan

Spurs have long been linked with a move to sign Zaniolo from Roma, and those rumours have intensified over the last few weeks.

The 23-year-old Italian, branded as an ‘incredible’ player, has entered the final two years of his contract in the Italian capital. Even though he’s one of Roma’s most important players, he is viewed as someone who does not ‘necessarily fit the scheme’ under Mourinho, who now has Paulo Dybala at his disposal.

As a result, Roma are now willing to sacrifice Zaniolo in this summer’s transfer window, and Spurs director Paratici, who has been a fan of the midfielder for years now, is set to hold talks over a potential move.

The report claims that Roma could be willing to let Zaniolo leave on a season-long loan this summer – with an ‘option to buy’ clause for a pre-set amount included in the deal. That’s brilliant news for Spurs.

Paratici could pull off a Kulusevski-type deal

If Roma really are ready to let Zaniolo leave on loan this summer, Paratici should be all over it.

The Spurs director is no stranger to negotiating loan deals with buy options – just look at what he did with Dejan Kulusevski in January this year.

Tottenham signed the talented Swede from Juventus on an 18-month loan deal with an option to make that move permanent for £29 million in 2023. However, if Spurs choose to buy him in this window, that fee will reportedly drop to £25 million, which is a bargain for a player of his quality. (Football London)

The report now reveals that Zaniolo is available on a similar deal. After seeing the success Kulusevski has had at North London, we feel this one is a no-brainer for Tottenham.
