Leeds United have become the latest Premier League side to target Rennes striker Martin Terrier, with L’Equipe in France reporting that the Whites view the 25-year-old as a priority this summer.

The Whites look to be stepping up their interest in a new goalscorer ahead of the final stages of the summer transfer window.

Reports have suggested that they are close to agreeing a deal for Arnaud Kalimuendo. But there is also interest in Ivan Toney. Jesse Marsch reportedly feels that the Brentford star would be the ideal partner for Patrick Bamford.

However, there is another name on their wishlist. According to L’Equipe, Leeds want Terrier. And, along with West Ham, the Whites see Terrier as one of their top targets.

Rennes will not sell Terrier on the cheap. They want at least £34 million for the forward, who scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 last year.

Terrier is obviously unproven outside of France. But he does appear to tick a lot of boxes for a club such as Leeds who most definitely need more quality in the final third.

He shone up front last season. But it was actually out in a slightly wider role on the left where he proved most prolific, scoring 15 times. So he would have the versatility to suit Marsch’s squad.

And Whites supporters can take encouragement from the fact that reports have claimed that Liverpool and Tottenham also want Terrier. It was even suggested earlier in the summer that Spurs had made a bid for the player. He is also a player who Thierry Henry seems to be a big fan of.

Obviously, it would be a risk to make Terrier their record signing. But Leeds fared quite well the last time they bought an attacking player from Rennes.

So perhaps history may repeat itself should the Whites bring Terrier to Elland Road this summer.
