According to a report from The Athletic, Gabriel Jesus was ‘very keen’ to join Chelsea before he signed for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian was desperate to leave Manchester City at the end of last season. He had entered the final year of his contract, and following Erling Haaland’s arrival at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola was ready to let Jesus go.
Gabriel Jesus was ‘very keen’ to join Chelsea before he signed for Arsenal
After it was decided that he would leave Manchester City, Jesus was linked with a whole host of clubs.
From Real Madrid and Juventus in Europe to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League – multiple sides wanted to sign him.
The report now claims that Jesus’ first choice in England was Chelsea – not Arsenal.
It has been revealed that the new owners at Stamford Bridge advocated a move for Jesus earlier in the window, but Thomas Tuchel told them then that he didn’t want a new striker.
However, the German changed his mind a few days later and was reportedly left frustrated that the new owners did not go all out to sign the Brazilian attacker.
What’s more frustrating for Chelsea fans is that Jesus was apparently ‘very keen to move to Stamford Bridge,’ but that transfer didn’t materialise. Arsenal then went in and got the deal done.

TBR View:
Jesus is an incredible striker, and it is no surprise that Chelsea wanted to sign him.
Branded as ‘amazing’ by Eddie Nketiah, the Brazilian can play anywhere across the front three, is an incredibly hard worker and his finishing inside the box is sensational too.
Tuchel’s indecision then, followed by an underwhelming start to the season, led to his dismissal at Chelsea. The Blues have now brought in Graham Potter, and we’re sure he would’ve loved Jesus in his squad as well.
However, Chelsea blew their chance to sign him this summer, and the Blues’ loss is proving to be Arsenal’s gain.
