Report: Arsenal-linked Scamacca now wanted by Borussia Dortmund to replace Erling Haaland
Gianluca Scamacca has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal recently, but the Gunners are now set to face some new competition.
Mikel Arteta’s side are keen to bring in a number nine this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club back in February, while Alexandre Lacazette was allowed to walk away at the end of the campaign.
Arsenal have confirmed that they have offered Eddie Nketiah a brand new contract, but a deal has not been struck yet. That leaves the Gunners with zero strikers ahead of pre-season in 10 days’ time, which is concerning.
Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus is reportedly Arteta’s number one target this summer, but bringing him in won’t be easy. Scamacca is also said to be on the wish list, but that’s not a straightforward deal either.
Arsenal-linked Scamacca is a candidate to succeed Haaland at Dortmund
Arsenal’s interest in Scamacca has been well reported over the last few weeks, while rumours about Paris Saint-Germain entering the race have also been covered.
That competition was hard enough for the Gunners, but things have got just a little bit harder.
CalcioMercato reveal today that German giants Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Scamacca from Sassuolo as well this summer, and they view him as the heir to Haaland’s throne following the Norwegian’s move to Manchester City.
The report claims that Juventus, the two Milan clubs, Arsenal, PSG and Dortmund are all ‘already moving’ to sign Scamacca before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have already had a bid rejected
Sadly for the Gunners, the report claimed that Scamacca himself rejected the bid because he wants to stay in Italy this summer.
Multiple reports have since claimed that Arsenal are still keen to sign the talented Italian, but the competition for him is fierce, which means it will not be easy.
It will be interesting to how this pans out this summer. If Arteta cannot lure Jesus in, Scamacca, a player who ‘has everything’, would really be a great option.
