Report: £80k-a-week Tottenham player is still injured, he only trains when he feels like it
Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t end their mid-season break with a win last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nice.
It allowed Antonio Conte to introduce a number of players back into action after appearing at the World Cup.
When his players returned to training, he was not only dealing with 11 of his first-team being in Qatar.
Several members of the squad still weren’t fit from the end of the first-half of the season.
Ryan Sessegnon didn’t appear in any of Tottenham’s friendlies, but was at least named on the bench last night.
Clement Lenglet also wasn’t 100% but did manage to start against the French club yesterday.
The 30-year-old has barely played this campaign, even when Spurs were really short of attackers.
It’s a frustrating time for the Brazilian as he looks to earn a new deal at the north London club.
Moura is still injured
The Athletic report that ‘Moura is still suffering with the tendon issue which has dogged him all season. He’s training on an ad hoc basis, depending on how much pain he feels.’
It’s a real shame for a player who will always be fondly remembered by Spurs fans.
“In this situation, also if I wanted to start with another player (instead of Harry Kane) it was impossible because of injuries to Richarlison, Kulu and Lucas Moura, from the start of the season,” Conte said via Football London.
“We’re not having Lucas Moura from the start of the season but no one is talking about this.”
Moura won’t want to finish his career at Tottenham while still being injured, and will feel he still has plenty to offer.
However, if he can’t train regularly yet, it’s difficult to see how much football he’s going to be able to play in the next few weeks and months.
