‘He loves Tottenham’: Journalist believes 30-year-old wants to stay at Spurs, he’s desperate to win a trophy

Journalist Tom Barclay believes winger Lucas Moura wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spirits are high at Tottenham right now, with Antonio Conte’s side enjoying at unbeaten start to the season.

The Italian manager has made his team difficult to beat, and integrated his new signings brilliantly.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Barclay believes Moura ‘loves’ being at the club, and is ‘desperate’ to win a trophy.

Moura has found himself out of favour at Tottenham this season, playing just 14 minutes of league football so far.

The Brazilian was also absent from training yesterday, and is unlikely to feature in their Champions League tie against Sporting tonight.

He was linked with a move away from the club in the summer, but a move never materialised.

The 30-year-old has been at the club since January 2018, and has had some iconic moments in a Spurs shirt.

His most memorable will be the hat-trick against Ajax that secured Tottenham’s place in the Champions League final.

Moura wants to stay at Tottenham

The winger has struggled to make an impact at Spurs under Antonio Conte.

Tottenham are already over-subscribed with full-backs to fill the wing-back roles.

He would also struggle to break into the team ahead of Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, who have been brilliant under Conte.

Moura therefore is only likely to be a bit part player under Conte, or cover for an injury crisis.

However, he clearly feels strongly about the club, and Moura wants to stay at Tottenham past his current deal.

“I mean, Moura’s an interesting one. I think he’s got a year or two left, but I think he might have an option on his contract. He loves Tottenham.” Barclay said.

“We spoke to him in pre-season and he’s desperate to win that trophy like a lot of those Spurs players are who’ve been there for a long time.

“He’s a great character around the squad. I don’t think he’s one Conte would have been loath to lose, and I don’t think he was pushing for a move either.”
