Mikel Arteta hails three Tottenham stars after North London Derby win

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was over the moon with his side’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

He had every right to be, with the Gunners playing their closest rivals off the park at their own stadium.

Speaking after the match, Arteta was really impressed with three of Tottenham’s players.

Spurs fans will want to forget that the first-half ever happened yesterday.

Tottenham were second-best in every department and went into the break two goals behind.

Hugo Lloris made another big mistake for the first goal, and his future at the club will be called into question.

The likes of Jordan Pickford and David Raya have both been linked with a move to north London.

A moment of brilliance from Martin Odegaard, who has been universally praised for his performance, doubled Arsenal’s lead.

Tottenham, as has become customary this season, improved in the second-half, but couldn’t make a breakthrough.

As well as bring impressed with some of Tottenham’s players, Arteta singled out Aaron Ramsdale for praise.

He was called into action on several occasions, and was up to the task of keeping Tottenham at bay.

Arteta impressed with Tottenham players

Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “He [Ramsdale] had some great moments. To win here we are going to need that.

“We talked about that. There is going to be a moment where you mistime a movement, or they create an incredible move because the front three are just so difficult to stop and you’re going to need your goalkeeper. Aaron was superb today.

“He had some great moments. To win here we are going to need that. We talked about that.

“I watch a lot of games obviously of them, and they have this capacity because they start to throw people forward and the front three is so unpredictable, what they can do.

“They can run set pieces, it can be in open spaces, it can be when you are set in the final third.

“We had to dig in in those moments and we needed some great defensive moments.”

Arteta being impressed with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski is no surprise, they’re arguably Tottenham’s best players.

However, they were largely kept quiet in the first-half, but were certainly more effective after the break.

Kulusevski, in particular, carried the ball well and caused Arsenal’s defence plenty of problems.

Kane is the all-time top scorer in North London derbies, and tested Ramsdale on a number of occasions.

None of Tottenham’s attacking stars could make the difference though, and they now have a trip to Manchester City to prepare for.
