Aaron Ramsdale was named as man of the match. But Tottenham’s fightback only came about once Arsenal had secured control of the game and taken a 2-0 lead.

Arteta amazed by Odegaard display

Hugo Lloris broke the deadlock by fumbling the ball into his own net. Meanwhile, Odegaard doubled the lead with a brilliant strike from distance before the break.

The Norwegian has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season. And Arteta made no secret of how impressed he was by his display against Spurs on Sunday.

“Terrific. Especially the first half I think he was incredible,” he said, as reported by Football London. “He’s really showing a different kind of presence in the way he’s influencing the game, just the feeling, the way he moves what he transmits on the pitch is different. To do what he’s done here today, big credit to him.”

Odegaard was pretty impressive last season. He ended the campaign with seven goals and four assists in the Premier League. That was a return which certainly went some way to justifying why the Gunners signed him permanently for £30 million.

But those totals are now looking pretty mediocre – because of how good he has been this term.

The 24-year-old has eight goals and five assists in 17 games. He is definitely playing the best football of his career right now. And he could still get better when you consider his age and how Arsenal are evolving as a team currently.

He actually has four goals and three assists in his last five games in the top-flight. And that has helped Arsenal extend their lead at the summit of the table.

Certainly, if he keeps this form up, it is hard to see the Gunners being caught.
