Liverpool could yet surprise everyone with a late big-money move this summer as rumours continue to swirl ahead of the deadline.

Liverpool are still currently the only side not to have signed a single player in the Premier League so far this summer. Although, Giorgio Mamardashvili looks set to be the first as he’s to join from Valencia.

Elsewhere, there is the likelihood of an attacking signing as Fabrizio Romano claims Federico Chiesa is excited to join Liverpool this summer.

And, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes aren’t stopping there as a defender appears to have also made it onto their radar, with James Pearce hinting at a potential Joe Gomez exit.

Arne Slot could make last-gasp Liverpool move for Goncalo Inacio in the final days

There have been a few centre-back rumours floating around as Jonathan Tah receives interest from Liverpool and Anfield chiefs have held talks over Marc Guehi.

Now, TEAMTALK report that Liverpool could make a move for Goncalo Inacio in the final days of the window.

It is stated that the defender has a release clause of £50.8 million and many top clubs are showing an interest, so any potential move won’t be cheap or easy.

With Sepp van den Berg sealing a permanent move to Brentford and Joe Gomez possibly heading for a similar fate, there’s definitely a need to spruce things up at the heart of the defence.

Would Goncalo Inacio be a guaranteed starter?

Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah and Ibrahim Konate are the three main options that Arne Slot has tinkered with already this season at Liverpool.

With Champions League football and various competitions on the horizon for the Reds, it’s important that the squad depth is there before the window closes.

Goncalo Inacio, who had an ‘incredible’ season with Sporting, has that European experience having featured 28 times in the Europa League and Champions League combined, so there’s no worry there.

Interestingly, Inacio trumped Van Dijk when it came to tackles last season as he averaged 1.74 per 90 minutes and 1.27 tackles won, but overall he doesn’t seem like an improvement on the pair.

Although Inacio has plenty of potential, spending £50.8 million on a player who’s no better than what you’ve already got seems like a slight risk.
