Football journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Leeds United could now ramp up their move to sign Rennes forward Martin Terrier.

Jesse Marsch’s side have made some good signings so far in this window, but they’re not done just yet. The Whites are in desperate need of a new striker – someone who can play alongside Patrick Bamford and also in place of him when necessary.

Bamford has been Leeds’ main man for a few years now. He has played close to 120 games for the Whites in all competitions, but just 10 of those came last season.

The 28-year-old’s injury problem is one of the biggest reasons why Leeds struggled so much. That simply cannot happen again, which is why Marsch is really pushing to bring in a new striker.

Leeds have been heavily linked with a move for PSG striker Arnaud Kalimuendo this summer, and he appears to be their top target.

However, Jacobs has now claimed that Leeds could ramp up their pursuit of Terrier too.

He told GiveMeSport this week: “This is a player that Leeds really like.

“It’s not as advanced as Kalimuendo at this point, but we’re getting to that stage now where Leeds don’t want to start the season over-reliant on Bamford, and as a consequence, they may well ramp up their efforts on Terrier.”

Scored more goals than Messi and Neymar combined

Terrier was absolutely fantastic for Rennes last season. The versatile Frenchman played up top as a striker as well as on the left flank, and he was effective in both positions.

The 25-year-old scored 21 goals and provided four assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes last term. That is a phenomenal return, and he is one of the biggest reasons why Les Rouge et Noir finished fourth.

What makes his record even better is when you compare it with two of the league’s biggest names – Lionel Messi and Neymar. Terrier outscored both of them. Messi only managed five goals in Ligue 1, while Neymar scored just 10 times.

To add to that, Premier League icon Thierry Henry absolutely loves him. The legendary Frenchman even urged Didier Deschamps to call him to the France squad. (GFFN)
