Report: Leeds could make big money move to sign 'high-level' attacking star late on this summer

Jesse Marsch has been on the lookout for a striker this summer and Leeds Live reports that the club could make a big money move for Stade Rennais forward Martin Terrier after the season starts

Leeds have certainly been busy shaping Marsch’s squad during the window as the Whites have brought in six players already.

And after the departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, the club are seemingly willing to smash their record transfer fee for a new striker.

United are thin in this area of the squad and it showed after Patrick Bamford missed 20 games last season through injuries. Now, Leeds are looking to bring in a new striker to compete with the 28-year-old.

Leeds could move to sign Terrier

Leeds could move for Martin Terrier or Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo after the season starts, according to Leeds Live

Talks for either forward are not advanced at this moment in time but sporting director Victor Orta could wait until after the new Premier League season starts.

The club know they will most likely have to smash their record transfer fee in order to sign a striker, so they are keen to make the right decision and are willing to bide their time, waiting until late in the window to strike.

Terrier is a ‘high-level’ forward

Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio previously labelled Terrier a ‘high-level’ player when speaking to Ligue 1’s official website

“Martin Terrier has all the qualities of a high-level player, tactically and in his movements. He’s attacking more aggressively too,” he said.

Terrier was excellent in Ligue 1 last season as he netted 21 goals in 37 games for Stade Rennais. The Frenchman mainly plays on the left-wing but also played a number of games as a centre-forward for Genesio’s men.

The 25-year-old has three years left on his current deal at the French club, so it’s easy to see why Leeds may have to pay big money to sign him.

As for Kalimuendo, the 20-year-old spent last season on loan at RC Lens and had an impressive season. He didn’t manage to outscore Terrier but he did find the back of the net 12 times in 32 games.

The France U21 international represents more of a signing for the future for Leeds so it will be interesting to see who Marsch decides to go for.

The American has opted for younger players with potential so far this summer as Leeds have brought in players no older than 25.

But Marsch is clearly being backed by the Leeds board as he continues to bring in players that fit his profile and the Whites are clearly willing to spend the Phillips and Raphinha money this summer.
