Leeds and Newcastle United were both heavily linked with a move to sign Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic in the summer, and Jamie Carragher has now urged the American to leave Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old joined the Blues back in 2019 for £58 million (BBC). He was viewed by many as the next big thing for Chelsea, but injuries and inconsistency have really hurt him over the years.

Jamie Carragher tells Leeds United target Christian Pulisic to leave Chelsea
Since joining Chelsea three years ago, Pulisic has played 128 times in all competitions. He has, however, only scored 26 goals, which is simply not good enough for someone who cost so much money.
Carragher watched Pulisic’s old pal Timo Werner star for RB Leipzig against Real Madrid yesterday. He feels that the American should follow in Werner’s footsteps and leave Chelsea for the sake of his own career.
Asked if Pulisic should leave, the pundit said on CBS Sports last night, as quoted by The Mirror: “One hundred per cent.
“A lot of footballers are different. I do scratch my head when I see certain players at clubs for a long time and they never really get into the team. And that’s why I think Thierry [Henry] is saying he respects Timo Werner. Rather than just sitting on the bench another year or two he’s gone back to somewhere where he’s going to play week in, week out.
“And I just think Pulisic is sort of at that stage now where there’s been a few managerial changes. It looks like he’s getting more of a chance with Potter, but not just him, I think Graham Potter is a manager who changes it every game so everyone is getting a chance. So he may feel like he’s getting more of an opportunity to prove to the manager he can be in that recognised 11.
“But he’s been there a few years now, it hasn’t quite happened for him for whatever reason, and maybe Dortmund is a level down from Chelsea, who are a team who are trying to win the Champions League – we know Pulisic was part of that win. But eventually, you have to make that decision. I don’t think you can continue to be in that position that he’s been in for the last two or three years.”
Pulisic will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, and he could well be an option for numerous clubs in the winter window.

A target for both Leeds and Newcastle
Back in the summer transfer window, reports revealed that both Newcastle and Leeds United were considering a move to sign Pulisic from Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano even revealed last month that Newcastle were ‘obsessed’ with Pulisic and were desperate to sign him in the summer. However, they only wanted him on loan, which was the opposite of what Chelsea preferred. (Que Golazo)
With Pulisic set to enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, there’s a good chance Chelsea will try to push him out – especially if they bring in another attacker.
That will surely put the likes of Leeds and Newcastle on red alert, and the 24-year-old American could prove to be an excellent signing for either club.
