‘I really like’: Dominic Corness now says he’s trying to copy £25m Liverpool star in training

Liverpool’s mid-season tour of Dubai has nearly finished, with the Reds preparing to face AC Milan tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp has had the majority of his first-team squad available throughout, as well as a number of exciting young players.

One of those young stars, Dominic Corness, has spoken to the club’s official website.

The 19-year-old has had an exciting few months, having signed a new contract last month.

He’s now been included as part of Klopp’s travelling squad, and played his first senior minutes against Lyon on Sunday.

The central midfielder has had a fine season in the Liverpool academy.

He’s been a regular player in Premier League 2, recording two assists in 10 appearances.

Corness also started five matches in the UEFA Youth League, in which the Reds topped their group.

It’s not the first time the midfielder has been involved with Liverpool’s senior side.

He was pictured training with the first-team back in October, after being promoted to the under-23 squad last summer.

Corness has now admitted he’s a big fan of Thiago Alcantara, and tries to copy the way he plays in training.

There aren’t many better players to look up to that the exceptional Spaniard, who is one of the best technical players in the league.

Corness is a massive fan of Thiago

Speaking to the club’s website, Corness was asked who he looks up to at Liverpool: “I’m a midfielder, so all the midfielders here are exceptional.

“I really like Thiago, so I would try to base my game off him as much as I can.

“But it’s not just Thiago, it’s all the midfielders. Even then, all the players have got attributes that you want to take and try to put into your own game.”

The £25m midfielder has been instrumental to Klopp’s side since arriving from Bayern Munich.

He was encouraged to make the move by Xabi Alonso, and has produced some moments of magic in a Liverpool shirt.

However, injuries have also played a big part in his time at Anfield, and even this season he’s only managed eight league appearances.

His work in training has long been admired by his teammates, and it’s no surprise Corness is a fan of Thiago’s work.

Takumi Minamino has said that the 31-year-old is capable of doing things he’d ‘never seen before’.

He left another youngster, Tyler Morton, in shock with his ability in training.

Klopp will be hoping Thiago can carry that training ground form into competitive action when Liverpool face Manchester City next week.
