‘I beat him’: Aaron Ramsdale says 30-year-old teammate is Arsenal’s most competitive player in training

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has claimed that Mohamed Elneny is the most competitive player in training.

Ramsdale was speaking to BT Sport ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven.

Arsenal should be in Premier League action this midweek against Manchester City, but postponements have changed their plans.

A win tonight and Arsenal’s place in the Europa League knockout rounds will be confirmed.

Ramsdale is unlikely to feature, with new signing Matt Turner proving to be an able deputy in the cup.

Neither will Elneny, who is a long-term absentee after picking up a hamstring injury.

However, Ramsdale will be hoping to see the ultra-competitive Elneny back in training soon.

It’s not the first time he’s called out the Egyptian, also saying he’s a bit ‘strange’ in a previous interview.

Elneny is so competitive in Arsenal training

Ramsdale was asked plenty of questions about his teammates, before being posed the question of who got over-competitive in training.

“I reckon Mohamed Elneny. We play Teqball together and I beat him eight times out of ten,” Ramsdale said.

“And every day (he says), ‘oh no you didn’t win, you cheat’, and I’m like, OK.

“(So, he’s competitive) and a liar, I’ll give him that one.”

Elneny signed a new contract in May this year, extending his six-year stay at the Emirates.

At the time manager Mikel Arteta said that Elneny, ‘brings endless energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the team and is loved by everyone’.

That energy appears to transfer into the way he trains with his teammates.

Elneny’s injury forced Arsenal to try and make a last-minute addition to their squad.

Douglas Luiz was heavily linked with a move the Emirates, but recently signed a new deal at Aston Villa.

Arteta will be hoping Elneny is able to return to full fitness soon to provide important competition in the middle of the park.

And Ramsdale will be hoping Elneny comes back as his normal competitive self in training.
