Report: 'Incredible' player is now injured and will not play for Arsenal against Aston Villa tomorrow

Arsenal midfielder Mo Elneny is now injured and will miss his side’s clash with Aston Villa.

Elneny came in for Thomas Partey in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Fulham, with the former Atletico Madrid man also suffering with a fitness issue.

Partey is expected to be back fit soon, but the Athletic claim that Elneny faces a longer period of time out on the sidelines.

They also say that Elneny’s injury may mean that Mikel Arteta dips into the transfer market for a new central midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

Pedro Neto was the club’s top target, as the club continues to seek cover and competition for talismanic England international Bukayo Saka.

But a new man in the engine room may become a priority, with Youri Tielemans a player who has been linked throughout the summer.

The report says that any new face will not be a panic buy, and would seemingly be a long term target who is accelerated or pushed for because Arsenal are now a touch light in midfield.

Elneny played the full game and it was only after the match that his injury problem became apparent and it is not yet known how long he will be out for.

Elneny did not get much gametime last season but performed admirably when he came into the side in the closing weeks of the season.

He signed a new contract in the summer, at which point Edu hailed his ‘incredible mentality‘, which will help him come back stronger from this blow.
