Frank Lampard is one of Chelsea’s greatest-ever midfielders, so he knows a thing or two about what it takes to be at the top.

The England international spent 13 years with the Blues, guiding them towards Premier League and Champions League success.

He also had a spell as Chelsea manager, taking charge of some quality players during a difficult time in the club’s history.

Even all those years after Frank Lampard left Stamford Bridge, the former midfielder still clearly has plenty of support for the Blues.

That has reflected in just how positively he has reviewed the form of Moises Caicedo, who he has likened to the legendary N’Golo Kante.

Frank Lampard praises Moises Caicedo with N’Golo Kante comparison

The Chelsea midfield has evolved, with the central ranks once patrolled by Lampard and Kante, now overseen by Caicedo.

The 23-year-old has had an outstanding start to the campaign for the Blues, with his goal against Liverpool cementing his rise to the top.

That has led to plenty of praise from Lampard when speaking on TalkSPORT.

He said: “I see that [comparison between Caicedo, Makelele and Kante]. And that’s a big comparison because of the players and what they did.

“They were both amazing. I played with Makelele obviously, and he was a different type to N’Golo [Kante] because N’Golo could really get around everywhere, whereas Maka basically sat in front a lot.

“But I see that because of the style of play really he [Caicedo] can do the Makelele breakup stuff really well.

“Closing down space really quickly, and now he’s shown, I think last season and this, that he’s got the sort of Kante bits in his game because N’Golo could do that.

“He could arrive at the edge of the box and score. So yeah, he’s still a young player really growing quickly within the group, and I think yeah, I think it’s a fair comparison and what he’s got to do now is just turn it out consistently for next season and hopefully try and win things with Chelsea more things.”

It’s clear that Caicedo is starting to perform in the way many expected when he made the record-breaking move to Chelsea.

Moises Caicedo is leading the Premier League stat charts

Caicedo’s move from Brighton to Chelsea came with plenty of scrutiny, as people questioned the transfer fee.

Despite that, all these years on, the midfielder is starting to prove exactly why he cost the amount that he did.

He currently leads the Premier League for tackles made (28), ahead of the likes of Jurrien Timber (25) and Joao Palhinha (25).

Caicedo is also top for interceptions (18), while his recent foray into scoring goals has certainly helped Chelsea in recent weeks.
