Fabrizio Romano suggests ‘Rolls-Royce’ Spurs target will change clubs in 2024

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Lloyd Kelly in recent months and speculation is now starting to do the rounds again.

For instance, talkSPORT recently reported that Spurs are thinking of making a January bid for the Bournemouth defender, whose contract expires next summer.

Similarly, journalist Dean Jones recently claimed to GiveMeSport that Tottenham have already made ‘detailed checks’ over snapping up Kelly in January.

However, Spurs may have to watch out from competition across Europe, with Serie A clubs now apparently in pursuit.

Fabrizio Romano took to X on Thursday to report that Kelly is now on the radar of AC Milan and Juventus.

“AC Milan are working on deal to sign Lloyd Kelly in January,” he wrote about the reported Tottenham target.

“Considered interesting centre-back for present and future.

“Understand Juventus are also interested and informed on conditions of the deal.”

Romano also suggested that Kelly would definitely be leaving next year, due to his contract expiring and no option for the Cherries to extend.

“Kelly, out of contract in 2024 — NO option for #AFCB to extend his deal,” added the transfer insider.

Spurs have chance to sign ‘top, top player’ in Kelly

Tottenham will have the opportunity to try their luck for an outstanding Premier League-proven defender for a small fee this January.

Several years ago, Eddie Howe described Kelly as a footballer who has got “everything he needs to be a top, top player“.

Meanwhile, Scott Parker told Dorset Live in 2021: “He’s a Rolls-Royce with the ball and covering space, he’s right up there and a top, top player.”

The chance to snap up a top player for a small fee (you’d think, what with his contract running out) is an opportunity Spurs cannot waste.

At the same time, there will be competition for Kelly’s services, so Tottenham will need to really work hard in negotiations.
