The Athletic’s David Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal are at the head of the queue to sign Gabriel Jesus this summer, and everybody he speaks to feels this deal will go through.

The Gunners are in desperate need to sign a new striker in this window, and it is no secret at this point that Manchester City star Jesus is Mikel Arteta’s priority transfer target.

Multiple reports have revealed that Arsenal are in talks to sign the £50 million-rated striker, but Gunners fans are concerned now that the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea are also interested in his services.

However, Ornstein claims that people around the deal have told him that Jesus to Arsenal is a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’.

Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal: David Ornstein says sources expect this to happen

Speaking to Joel Beya on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Ornstein said about Jesus: “Arsenal have made him their priority signing, and they are keen to get this closed out quickly. But, there is no agreement with Manchester City.

“I think Arsenal are at the head of that queue, you speak to so many people who do expect this to happen as a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.

“But, there is interest from elsewhere. It could be a case of ‘if you snooze you lose’ because Chelsea are keen on Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Tuchel likes him a lot.

“I’m not sure Gabriel Jesus wants to come in as a wide forward, he’d want to come in as a central striker. Maybe he could do that as Romelu Lukaku’s replacement at Chelsea, remains to be seen.

“But certainly, he can do that at Arsenal. It’s a bit of a glove-fit for them. They want him, he seems open to the move, they’ve got the position available now. There has been a lot of premature reporting so far, but clearly, it’s not far off, it’s just not there yet.”

TBR View:

Jesus would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta knows him really well thanks to their time together at Manchester City, while Edu must be familiar with him too from his time as the coordinator of the Brazilian national team a few years ago.

To add to that, Jesus is still fairly young at 25, has a ton of Premier League experience under his belt already, can score, create chances and play in a variety of different roles in attack.

This really is a no-brainer for Arsenal, and if they can strike a deal with City in the coming weeks, Jesus could potentially be one of the best signings of this summer’s transfer window.
