Tottenham Hotspur star Emerson Royal’s representative, Dr Fabiano de Abreu, has come out and rubbished claims that the defender will be sold by Spurs this summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo bought the Brazilian full-back from Barcelona last summer for £25.8 million (BBC). Emerson was viewed by many as perfect for Tottenham and a lot was expected of him.
However, the 23-year-old really struggled in his debut campaign in Engalnd, so much so that reports have revealed that Antonio Conte wants to get rid of him before the start of the new Premier League season.
Those claims have now been played down by Abreu, who has revealed what Conte has told Emerson about his future.
Emerson Royal will not be sold by Tottenham
After Emerson’s father publicly claimed last week that he has held informal discussions with Atletico Madrid about one of his clients, Abreu has now come out and put all the rumours to bed.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet Lance, he said: “Emerson does not leave Tottenham.
“In fact, Antonio Conte said that even if it was for 40 million euros (£34m), the loan would not come out since he has the player as number one in his position.
“Royal is happy in the team and his football tends to improve”

Every Tottenham fan will agree that Emerson really struggled last season. The adaptation from La Liga to the Premier League wasn’t easy for him, and that has reportedly convinced Conte to find an upgrade in that position.
Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence is one name who has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs, and if Fabio Paratici can get that deal over the line, it’s difficult to imagine where Emerson would fit in.
The Brazilian has been linked with a return to Spain, with Atletico Madrid said to be keen. That would be a decent move for Emerson, considering how good he was in La Liga until his move to England last year.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming weeks, but if Abreu is to be believed, the Brazilian full-back will remain a Tottenham Hotspur player beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.
