Aston Villa have reportedly rejected an approach from West Ham to sign Colombian striker Jhon Duran.

The east London side are keen to bring in an attacker before the closure of the transfer window, with Duran reportedly emerging as a target for West Ham in recent days.

With the likes of AC Milan and Chelsea also linked with Duran, there has been an expectation this January that the former Chicago Fire superstar could leave Villa, whether it be permanently or on loan.

And according to TalkSport, Villa have now turned down an approach from West Ham for Duran, with Unai Emery keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old attacker.

Lauded by Clinton Morrison as ‘outstanding’ in Villa’s recent win against Manchester City, it’s no real wonder why the Premier League title contenders are eager to keep hold of Duran.

And for West Ham, signing the Villa striker was always going to be an ambitious move, with Duran one of the most exciting prospects in the entire Premier League.

West Ham must have known Jhon Duran would not be available

West Ham’s quest for an attacker has ultimately led the east London side to the doorstep of a Premier League rival in Villa, with Duran the target for the Irons.

Yet the Hammers must have known from the start that the South American prospect would have been an unlikely signing given his quality and reputation at Villa.

Indeed, West Ham can be applauded for their ambition, but Villa were never going to allow a top talent in Duran join an English-based rival this January, especially with what’s now at stake.
