Arsenal's chances of making 'spectacular' signing could be greatly increased if Antonio Conte leaves Tottenham - TBR View
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been heavily linked with a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez over the last few months, and the Gunners may soon have an edge in the race.
The Argentine, branded as ‘spectacular’ by Lionel Messi, is among the best strikers in the world. He helped the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto last season and if things go his way this term as well, Inter will retain their title ahead of their local rivals, AC Milan.
Irrespective of what happens in the Serie A, multiple reports have claimed that Inter will sell Martinez this summer in order to raise funds. Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be keen on the 24-year-old and both clubs can definitely afford him.
However, Arsenal may soon have an edge in the race to sign him.
Conte leaving Tottenham could make Arsenal favourites to sign Lautaro Martinez
Lautaro Martinez was an absolute star under Antonio Conte at Inter. He played 97 times under the Italian and was directly involved in 59 goals, which is a stunning record considering Romelu Lukaku was the main man more often than not.
Conte’s presence at Tottenham made them the absolute favourites to sign Martinez, but that may no longer be the case.
The Spurs boss has been heavily linked with the PSG job and if he moves to the French capital, Martinez may no longer see Tottenham as an attractive option for him.
That would put Arsenal in the driving seat for his signature, especially if they pip their North London rivals to the final Champions League spot as well.
Martinez would likely want to join a Champions League club if he leaves Inter this summer. The only exception he could make is for Spurs if his former boss convinces him of the project in hand.
However, if Conte leaves Tottenham and they finish where they currently are – fifth – Arsenal instantly become the favourites among the two clubs for his signature.
Arsenal could definitely do with a player like Martinez. The Gunners are set to lose both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette this summer and a top-quality replacement is an absolute necessity.
If Martinez is available, they should go all out to sign him, and Conte potentially leaving Spurs could well boost the Gunners’ chances of beating Tottenham for his signature this summer.
