Arsenal fans ‘devastated to see’ news coming from Chelsea as Blues now backed to ‘get much better’

Chelsea have not exactly posed much of a threat to Arsenal in recent seasons.

The Blues even finished 12th in the Premier League back in the 2022/23 campaign as the Gunners ended up second – five points off the top.

Chelsea did manage to close the gap in the 2023/24 season by finishing sixth – albeit 26 points behind Arsenal – but the two London clubs were much harder to separate last term, with only five points between them as the Blues finished fourth.

Now, Arsenal fans fear Chelsea are about to “get much better” as those at Stamford Bridge work on deals to sign Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons.

What Arsenal fans are saying as Chelsea close in on Dutch duo

The deals are not done yet, but they are close.

TBR Football understand Chelsea are nearing a deal for Hato – who Arsenal and Liverpool also want – with the Netherlands international already agreeing personal terms.

Furthermore, sources add that Simons is eager to leave RB Leipzig for the Premier League, and has a price tag of £60m – which Chelsea can afford.

It is safe to say Arsenal fans feel a bit jealous.

One wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Hato and Simons are top man, Chelsea are about to get much better.”

Specifically speaking about the Ajax defender, another added: “I’ve really been wanting this guy at Arsenal for a while and I’m devastated to see this to be honest. I know we have priorities but this would be the final piece in the defence for me.”

It is unclear whether Arsenal will still make a push for Hato, but the Gunners seem to have moved on to others as Cristhian Mosquera nears a move to the Emirates Stadium from Valencia.

A third fan bemoaned the fact Arsenal gave Chelsea £52m for Noni Madueke, which is now being put towards two sensational talents, posting: “Arsenal handed £52m to Chelsea and now will watch them sign Hato and Xavi Simons. Scammed. Embarrassing.”

Simons is said to prefer Chelsea over Arsenal – so even if the Gunners do get involved, it is uncertain whether they would have any chance of hijacking the deal.

Others called the double deal a “big statement” from Chelsea, and also an impressively “mad” swoop.

What Jorrel Hato thought of Arsenal

Had Arsenal also made a serious push for Hato, the Gunners could well have stood a chance of signing the Ajax No.4 this summer.

TBR Football understand Hato viewed Arsenal as a perfect destination for him to continue his development, which is already way ahead of schedule with 111 senior appearances for Ajax at the age of 19.

However, his camp were keen to keep all doors open, and Chelsea have now opted to enter as a deal advances.
