TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Chelsea are closing in on a move for Jorrel Hato after agreeing terms with the Ajax star.
The Blues have now launched a concrete move for Jorrel Hato, who has also been on the radar of Arsenal and Liverpool this summer.
Last month, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed that Chelsea were ‘pushing hard’ to sign Hato.
TBR Football can also reveal what assurance Chelsea specifically wanted from Hato – which looks to spell bad news for Arsenal and Liverpool.

Chelsea are advancing on Jorrel Hato deal after making sure he’s fully committed to Blues
Bailey exclusively told TBR Football that Chelsea have been wanting to make sure that Hato was not waiting for Arsenal and Liverpool, and that he was fully committed to joining the Blues.
The Blues are excited about this turn of events as they look to replace Renato Veiga with Hato, who is seen primarily as a left-back rather than as a centre-back.
“Chelsea have progressed with this. They have persuaded the player, which is the big thing – he has agreed to move in principle,” Bailey said.
“Chelsea were making sure that he was fully committed – that he wasn’t waiting for Arsenal and Liverpool. That isn’t to say those two might come late, but Chelsea have progressed with it.
“Chelsea have made their move. As we revealed earlier this year, they were very much interested in him, and now they are trying to get this one over the line.
“Chelsea like the fact he is a hybrid and will replace Renato Veiga in the squad.
“However, unlike Veiga, Hato is seen primarily as a left-back where he has spent most of his time at Ajax, rather than a centre-half – although he is more than capable of playing there.”
Bailey previously described Hato as a “fascinating option” for Chelsea and Liverpool due to what he offers on the pitch.
When Jorrel Hato could make his Chelsea debut
Chelsea’s triumphant Club World Cup campaign means their pre-season is set to get under way later than most other Premier League clubs.
Indeed, Chelsea don’t return to action until Friday 8 August, when they face Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge in the first match of the 2025 VisitMalta Weekender.
Enzo Maresca’s charges are then in action just two days later when they host AC Milan in the second match of the pre-season friendly tournament.
There is plenty of time for Chelsea to get the Hato deal over the line before they’re back in action, so if he joins in the next fortnight, he could well make his debut against Leverkusen or Milan.
