Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing Xavi Simons this summer.
The Netherlands international enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 campaign for RB Leipzig, scoring ten goals and providing seven assists in just 25 Bundesliga appearances.
On average, the Dutchman scored a goal every 2.5 games, which is a better return than £116m man Florian Wirtz achieved for Bayer Leverkusen – the German netted ten goals in 31 Bundesliga outings, an average of one strike every 3.1 appearances.
As Arsenal and Chelsea jostle to sign Xavi Simons this summer, the Telegraph have now revealed which Premier League outfit the 22-year-old is leaning towards.
Xavi Simons prefers Chelsea at this moment in time
Matt Law now claims that the RB Leipzig No.10 – who is valued around £60m – views a move to Stamford Bridge as his most attractive option, as things stand.
Simons – who TBR Football understand is becoming agitated at RB Leipzig – is working closely with Ali Barat to arrange his future, an agent who has connections to both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Barat oversaw Noni Madueke’s recent £52m move from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates Stadium, while the owner of Epic Sport also had an involvement in deals which saw Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo move to Chelsea.
The Telegraph add that Chelsea’s success at the FIFA Club World Cup has made the Blues a more attractive club in the eyes of many players across Europe, with Simons now interested in the move.
However, Chelsea may need to sell before they can advance on their approach for the RB Leipzig wonderkid, having already signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Willian Estevao.
Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix could all leave, while the future of Mykhailo Mudryk remains a mystery – the Ukraine international is still facing a lengthy ban after his suspension for doping.
What Kylian Mbappe has previously said about Xavi Simons
Some might have qualms about the strength of the Bundesliga in comparison to the Premier League, but the Arsenal and Chelsea target has also shone on the international stage.
Mbappe even hailed Simons after one meeting between France and the Netherlands at UEFA Euro 2024, pointing towards the attacking midfielder in the tunnel before telling Georginio Wijnaldum: “Hey, I was thinking, he was killing us!”
You may recall the man born in Amsterdam also opened the scoring against England in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final with a fantastic strike, before goals from Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins secured a 2-1 comeback win.
Therefore, you can see why both Chelsea and Arsenal are fighting to sign the immensely talented Simons.
