Alan Shearer says one of Liverpool’s signings has been ‘really poor’, ‘it’s not working’

Liverpool have suffered their first defeats of the season in their past two games, and Alan Shearer has been unimpressed with one player in particular.

Arne Slot’s side were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray in midweek, just days after being defeated by Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

It has been a couple of results that have been building after a frantic start to the season that has seen the Reds far from at their best.

Liverpool have multiple new signings who they are trying to build into the team, but one of those players has struggled in the early moments of this season.

Alan Shearer believes Florian Wirtz was ‘poor again’ for Liverpool

Liverpool spent £116 million on Florian Wirtz during the summer, which instantly brought a level of expectation from fans for what he would offer the team.

Unfortunately, the Germany international has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and hasn’t provided any goals or assists since the Community Shield final.

During the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Shearer gave his opinions on how Wirtz performed against Galatasaray, and he wasn’t impressed with what he saw.

“Wirtz was really poor again. And whether he likes it or not, a lot of the focus is going to be on him because of no fault of his own, what they paid for him.

“And they’re looking for Liverpool to improve because, and they have changed.

“There’s no doubt about it with the two in and then him playing as a 10. And it’s not working. They can’t find the right balance as yet.”

How did Florian Wirtz perform against Galatasaray?

The overall team performance from Liverpool against Galatasaray was underwhelming, which was summed up by the eventual result.

However, Wirtz himself struggled to make any impact on the game. While he covered the most distance of any player in the game, he didn’t cause any problems for their opponents.

Wirtz had three shots throughout the game, but he still failed to find the goal that Liverpool fans are desperately hoping for him to get.

Liverpool now face Chelsea this weekend before the international break, giving Wirtz another opportunity to make an impact for the Reds.
