Liverpool are off the mark in the Champions League after beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot has enjoyed a perfect Premier League record in the first four games of the season, and has now taken his winning run to the Champions League.

Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead as Andrew Robertson deflected Mohamed Salah’s strike into the net, before the Egyptian found the net himself.

The Reds were left stunned as Marcos Llorente scored twice to haul Atletico level and leave them on the brink of a draw.

The last-gasp Reds were at it again, though, as Virgil van Dijk headed home the winner in stoppage time to secure all three points.

Liverpool could have scored more goals on the night, and were almost made to pay for their profligacy.

Fans were left excited by the connection between two summer signings as Florian Wirtz operated behind Alexander Isak.

Isak only joined Liverpool on deadline day and has been forced to wait for his Reds debut for more than a fortnight.

Liverpool paid big money for Wirtz and Isak, with the Reds ultimately expecting them to become their top stars in the coming years.

This was the first time Liverpool supporters had seen them in action together, and the signs were encouraging.

Liverpool fans on X suggested that Isak and Wirtz have already struck up a partnership which looks ‘deadly’ and ‘electric’.

Others believe that Isak and Wirtz will become the Premier League’s new great attacking combination, with shades of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

Some suggested that Isak and Wirtz are a ‘match made in footballing heaven’ and are backing them to cause ‘mayhem’ for Premier League defenders this season and beyond.

Arne Slot now faces Alexander Isak decision ahead of Liverpool v Everton

Isak looked sharp for a player who had a limited pre-season schedule, and he surely impressed Slot with his display.

The Liverpool boss now faces a tough call ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Slot is easing Isak into life at Anfield and will be wary of overloading him with a start against the Toffees.

Isak certainly impressed on Wednesday night, and some fans will be keen to see him start again this weekend.

Slot will have to weigh up that decision in the coming days, but we would expect him to go with summer signing Hugo Ekitike up front and Isak coming on from the bench.
